The Story Behind NYRRDREKI

NYRRDREKI is a unique cleaver-style folding knife designed by Dutch designer Fabian Hobbelen. From the very beginning, NYRRDREKI was created with a clear vision: to make a *compact cleaver folder with a unique personality*.

When Fabian shared the concept sketches with us, the knife was designed to resemble the head of a dragon, with the shape of the blade, handle, and large round cleaver hole working together to create a strong *dragon-inspired profile*. We think it is fun and impressive that it really looks like a dragon resting with its wings folded, and we are proud to bring this vision to life in the final production version of NYRRDREKI.

The Hole on the Blade

Traditional kitchen cleavers often feature a hole on the blade, originally designed to help reduce resistance and release pressure during cutting tasks.

Fabian added it to NYRRDREKI because he believed a cleaver should have a *classic cleaver hole*, and this element completed the dragon-inspired silhouette of the knife.

However, when Fabian received the first prototype and began fidgeting with it, he accidentally discovered something unexpected: the hole could be used for a *smooth pinky flip*.

It was never part of the original plan, but the result was surprisingly smooth and enjoyable. It quickly became one of NYRRDREKI’s most unique and memorable features.

Compact EDC but Robust

With an overall length of 7.04" and a blade length of 3.08", NYRRDREKI sits in the ideal range for a well-balanced folder.

Rather than pursuing an ultra-light and slim profile, we chose to preserve the bold character of the cleaver design.

The 4.0mm blade thickness and solid handle construction give NYRRDREKI a confident feel in hand, offering a balance between everyday carry convenience and a robust cutting experience.

Depending on the handle inlay material, the knife weighs approximately 3.8–4.0 oz, providing a satisfying and substantial feel without becoming overly bulky.

M390 Steel & 4 Inlay Options

NYRRDREKI features a premium *M390 blade*, a nice all-around steel known for its *excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance*.

It stays sharp for longer periods and requires less maintenance, making it a reliable choice for everyday carry, especially in humid environments.

The handle combines a titanium frame with four distinctive inlay options, including Micarta, Side Cut G10, Camo Carbon, and Fatcarbon.

Each material brings its own texture and visual character, allowing users to choose a version that best matches their personal style.
